Records appraisal and disposition practices at Mountains of the Moon University (MMU)
Abstract
This dissertation evaluates how records appraisal and disposition practices at Mountains of the Moon University is being practiced, which was conducted mainly at the Archives Department, Academic Registrar’s Department, Finance Department and the Human Resource Department.
According to the nature of the study, a descriptive research design was adopted in evaluating the research. Due to a small population size at the field the researcher used a purposive sampling technique were by the researcher chose only those respondents that were relevant to the area under study. But to obtain the sample size the research used Solvin’s formula.
Data was collected mainly through Interviews and observations where by data collection tools were formulated basing on the researchers objectives. The findings obtained at the field were interpreted, analysed and presented in an orderly manner. The findings of the study revealed that the University faces numerous challenges relating to appraisal and disposition including absence of properly documented procedure manuals, unqualified personnel, insufficient equipment used, lack of sensitization and reluctance during transfer of records.
Conclusions and recommendations were given by both the researcher and the respondents that involved in the research which pointed out clearly the significance of the research at MMU
