Abstract
The study was assessing the file management system at LDC. The aim of the study was to assess records management at LDC, find out challenges and propose strategies to improve file management at LDC. The objectives of the study were; to identify records created at Law Development Centre, to find out if there is a written File Plan at Law Development Centre, to find out what file categories exist at Law Development Centre, to examine the records filing system at Law Development Centre, to find out challenges faced when managing files, to propose strategies to improve the challenges faced by filing system at Law Development Centre. The researcher collected data from the records office with the help of records officer, data entrant and the assistant academic registrar in charge of academics. The data collection tools used were interview and observation guide. The researcher found out that there is no File Plan to guide filing practices, there are not enough suitable storage equipment, the storage space is also small posing a challenge when it comes to records storage. The researcher therefore recommended that a file plan be drawn and effected into a functional policy, suitable equipment be purchased to best utilized available storage space and more storage space be availed for records storage.
