Emotional intelligence, altruism and job satisfaction among employees of New Vision Printing and Publishing Company Uganda Limited in Kampala District.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between emotional intelligecne, altruism and job satisfaction among employees of New vision printing and publishing company Uganda limited. The study was guided by three objectiveswhich were to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and altruism, altruism and job satisfaction and the relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction.The study adopted a quantitative research approachand a correlational research design on a sample of 104 respondent from New vision printing and publishing Company selected using simple random sampling technique with the aim of establishing the relationship between the three variables. Data was collectedusing a self-administered closed ended questionnaire and analysis was done using Statistical package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21. Results revealed that emotional intelligence and altruism had a positive relationship, there was a no relationship between altruism and job satisfaction and lastly, emotional intelligence and job satisfaction were found to be positively related.From the above conclusions, recommendations were made that management should put effort in providing short refresher courses and guidance so as to help develop and boost employees’ levels of emotional intelligence in self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness and encouragement of altruistic behavior. Additionally, involvement of employees in making key decisions especially policies that affect them, improve on rewards and pay, enriching jobs and encouraging job rotation which in turn helps to increase employees’ levels of satisfaction and consequently improving on Organizational effectiveness.
