Abstract
The purpose of this project was to develop a web-based EPP system for the college of computing and information science library to manage the location, accessibility, storage, retrieval, preservation and distribution of examination past paper questions for use by the stakeholders. The study objectives were to: examine the current system used in managing EPPs at CoCIS library, identify the challenges associated with the current system, find out the requirements necessary for designing a web-based EPP system at CoCIS library and develop a web-based EPP system for CoCIS library The study was qualitative in nature to a wider extent but partly quantitative to a smaller extent and successfully engaged a sample size of 141 actual respondents which included Library users and Library staff selected purposively and engaged through questionnaires and individual interviews. The study found out that; Majority (64%) of the respondents were attached to SCIT whereas 56% were attached to EASLIS. Out of the 138 respondents (library users) 112 confessed that they had accessed EPP from the college library and only 26 had not attempted to access EPPs. The reported challenges experienced with the current EPP system were; missing EPPs, competition among users for the limited resources and complexity in access of EPPs. Users expected the new system to facilitate timely access and retrieval of past papers. 89% were positive about the development and implementation of the new web-based EPPs system The study concluded that: the library registers more SCIT users than EASLIS users, the EPPs was greatly in use by all library users, The challenges experienced with the current EPP system relate to the physical management of past papers at the library. The web-based EPP system is far better than the current EPP system thus its wider recommendations and expectation from users. The new EPP system relates to an information system that facilitates timely access and retrieval of past papers as expected by users. The study recommended that: the library services should be marketed and promoted to balance enrollment from all user categories (SCIT and EASLIS). An EPP system for the college of computing and information science libraries should be designed. This solves all challenges experienced with the current EPP system and also meets the user recommendations and expectations of the new system.
