A project report submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of the degree of bachelor of library and information science of Makerere Universityen_US
The research study aimed at designing an electronic library user registration system for Ndejje SSS Library. The objectives of the study were to; identify the library users of Ndejje SSS Library, examine the current system used in registering users of Ndejje SSS Library, identify the gaps/challenges with the current system of user registration in Ndejje SSS Library, identify the requirements for a user registration system in Ndejje SSS Library and design an electronic library user registration system for Ndejje SSS Library. The study employed a case study design with a qualitative research paradigm. The study used purposive sampling to select 12 respondents who actively participated in the study. Interview, observation and document review methods were used to collect data for the study. The research study revealed that at the moment, Ndejje SSS Library uses a manual system to register its users and this system has lots of weaknesses or challenges such as; time wastage, pages potentially being plucked out of the manual register, report generation and compilation is very difficult, poor data storage and security with this system is also poor. The suggested user requirements for Ndejje SSS Library electronic library user registration system included; the ability to ensure information security, ability to generate and compile the necessary reports, ability to quickly register the users, ability to accurately capture the details of the users, among others. The study concluded that there is need to implement the electronic library user registration system in Ndejje SSS Library, to train the library staff of Ndejje SSS Library on how to use the electronic library user registration system and to purchase the most updated computer models and software to ensure the successful implementation of the electronic library user registration system at Ndejje SSS Library. The study concluded that Ndejje SSS Library should implement the ELURS to help the library staff register the library users swiftly, the library staff should be properly trained to ensure that they become experts when it comes to using the ELURS and that a budget should be set aside to ensure the proper maintenance of the ELURS of Ndejje SSS Library.en_US
