dc.description.abstract | In Uganda today, the beverage sector is growing and negative impacts of this flourishing economic
development are becoming more evident. Currently, the end of pipe strategies that are being used
to curb pollution problems cannot solely resolve the ever-changing environmental problems. On
the other hand, this approach of environmental protection not only deprives the manufacturer of
the exhaustive use of the resources available to his or her establishment but costly.
In 1990, the Cleaner Production approach to environmental protection was launched by the United
Nations Environment Program through an integrated package of improvements at all stages of a
process and product life cycle. Cleaner Production addresses the root causes of environmental
problems rather than their effects.
Consequently, this study was carried out at Hema beverages and the business incubation center at
Makerere University so as to come up with ways of minimizing on solid wastes.
The data collection tools that have been used in this study include questionnaires for the interviews,
camera for the observation and notebooks for the desk research. The data collected using the
above-mentioned tools has been presented, analyzed and comments referring to the analytical
representation of the data have been included. Conclusions for the case study have also been made. | en_US |
