    Management of teachers records in Sembabule District Local Government

    Abstract
    ABSTRACT The study aimed at evaluating teacher’s records management in local governments specifically in Sembabule district. The study was guided by four objectives which included to assess the current status of Record Management Practices in Sembabule district to identify different types of records kept by teachers in Sembabule Local Government, to identify the importance of the records management Practices by teachers, to examine the challenges faced by teachers in management records and to propose solutions for effective teacher’s records management Sembabule Local Government. The study involved three data collection methods which included interview, observation and document review method. The study population size was 14 from which a sample size of 4 was purposively selected. The researcher used case study design, qualitative approach, descriptive survey and purposive sampling techniques in collecting data. The findings revealed that respondents who participated in the study were records managers in Sembabule district records department and it was realized that records housed in Ssembabule local government records department include financial records, administrative records, and personnel records The study revealed that records can be used as an information resource, they can facilitate the free flow of information, records act as long-term documentary, records act as the primary source of materials for information and records help to remind teachers of their previous activities. The study recommended that Sembabule local government teachers Records Management Services department must come up with a departmental records management policy or some sort of standards to manage records so as to ensure uniformity in the management of records within the department, appoint a person with a Records management qualification to revive the records departmental office for effective utilization. The research concluded that the Sembabule local government teachers Records Management Services department has worked seriously on records management problems though the safety and security of records is a challenge to personnel in-charge of records. Also by teachers in Sembabule local government department it was revealed that there were numerous instances where important documents and notes were not kept in secure conditions.
