Design and construction of an automatic blackboard cleaning system.
Abstract
The basis of this project was to design and construct an automatic blackboard cleaning system that will reduce time, energy and spreading of chalk dust during cleaning. Various steps and methods were used to carry out the project including literature survey which involves searching information about the existing innovations and identifying the gaps in those innovations, field surveys, data analysis, material selection for constructing specific parts, preliminary design, detailed design, fabricating the components of the machine and assembling them. The system was then tested to determine the cleaning time and its efficiency.
The prototype was tested by connecting the motor to power which rotated it at an angular velocity of 1350rpm. The angular velocity was reduced by introduction on the gear system with a gear ratio of 0.472 making the angular velocity 637.2rpm. This angular velocity yields a speed of 4.68m/s making the cleaning time of 1m to be 4.68seconds. Thus the speed was too high to enable efficiency operation of the system.
