dc.description.abstract | Biogas is a highly flamable gas produced when organic materials are fermented under anaerobic condition. It contains methane and cabondioxide gas with traces of hydrogen sulphide and water vapour. This project was carried to solve the problem of power and fuel shortages in rural areas that result into people cutting down trees for fire wood and charcoal burning which is hazardous to our environment. The major aim of the project was to produce biogas from cow dung and then measure it's concentration in terms of methane composition. During the progress, cow dung could be obtained then mixed with water in a ratio of one to one then feed into the biogas plant. This was carried for two weeks doing it at different times for different temperatures and then the methane composition measured. In the course of study, it was realized that the methane composition was highest during high temperatures of 25 to 29 ascertaining that it's highly produced during the mesophilic temperature range. This biogas produced was tested on the biogas lamp which lit but it was not stably giving out light due to impurities and for that reason I recommended the use of Scrubbers to purify the biogas so as to enable the biogas lamp light without any stoppage. | en_US |
