Design and construction of thermometric refrigerator
Abstract
The main objective of this project is to provide a cheap refrigerator that uses peltier effect process to cool substances. The project has been designed, constructed, tested and was found to meet up with the design specification. All the information necessary for its performance is contained in this project write up. Chapter one has introduction to TEC refrigeration. Chapter two has the literature view. Chapter three contains the methodology. Chapter four has results and discussion and chapter five has the conclusion. The refrigerator uses a dc battery to activate the TEC device which produces coldness. The refrigerator contains the cooling chamber where substances which are to be cooled are placed. It was made of locally materials like foam boards, thermal paste, CPU fans and heat sinks. The TEC device operates in a way that when it is connected to a 12 dc battery it produces coldness on one side of its surface and hotness on the other opposite surface. A heat sink is placed on the side which is hot and an extractor fan is connected on the heat sink to conduct the heat generated away from the TEC device. Temperatures in the cooling chambers, heat sink and substance to be cooled were obtained. The results were plotted and conclusions were made.
