    An assessment of records management practices and procedures at Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) - Makerere University

    Abstract
    The purpose of the project was to assess the records management practices and procedures at Regional Universities Forum for Capacity in Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM). The study was guided by five objectives of the study which includes: to identify the different types of records kept at RUFORUM, to find out the records management practices and procedures at RUFORUM, to examine the challenges faced with management of records in RUFORUM, to identify the requirements necessary for developing an ideal records management system for RUFORUM and proposed solutions and recommendation for effectives records management practices and procedures at RUFORUM. The study was qualitative and quantitative in nature and employed questionnaire, observation and interviews as the data collection methods. The methodology covered the research design where the researcher used descriptive research design because it provided a framework for interpreting the variables of the study. It further covered the population where out of the 25 study population, 24 was used as the sample size basing on the responses from the respondents. The major findings indicate that there is need for the organization to appraise their records, develop and implement records management policies, training staff about the effectiveness of records management, providing security and access control to records storage area. The study concluded that RUFORUM implement the records management system as indicated in chapter five for effective and efficient management of records within the organization these will play a role in streamlining records management practices and procedures at RUFORUM. The study recommends the adoption of the proposed records management system to achieve the management of records from creation to disposition
