    Determinants of Household Income in Magambo Sub County Rubirizi District

    Abstract
    The study mainly assessed determinants influencing household income in Magambo Sub county Rubirizi District, mainly the influence of the demographic characteristics of the respondents, effect of household size on the house hold income and the effect of occupation/employment on the household income. The study used a cross-sectional research design where samples of 100 households were considered for the study. Data was collected through ace to face interviews with household member using a well pre-tested and designed questionnaire and data processing was done in STATA version 15. A higher percentage of the respondents were females(54%), aged 18 to 25years (46%), had attained primary education (39%) and secondary education (25%), 30% are married. The majority of the respondents (42%) were 4 to 6 household members and slightly higher percentages (76%)of the respondents were 1 to 3 family members who are working , the majorities (50%) of the respondents were 4 to 6 dependents. The majorities (73%) of the respondents were farmers, most of the respondents (42%) strongly agreed that household income is as a result of employment and higher percentage (63%) of the respondents agreed that employment is very important to household income. Bivariate analysis showed that gender, age, education level, marital status, number of household members, number of dependents and number of family members who are working significantly influenced household income in Magambo sub county Rubirizi District where individuals in the middle age (26-45),those that attained at least secondary school, those that have few dependents, those with many family members who are working were more likely to have more house hold income. The government should provide agricultural support to households to support them increase their income and employment opportunities. This can be through providing Loans to households at a low interest rate The government should invest enough money in sensitizing people on the valve of Education so as to increase the number of household members who are working. The government should encourage parents to produce few children so as to reduce the burden of many dependents. This can be through encouraging people to use family planning methods
