Occupational Stress, Employee Assistance Programs and Employee Performance among the Permanent Staff of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
Abstract
The study sought to examine the mediating effects of employee assistance programs on the relationship between occupational stress and employee performance among the permanent staff of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). The study was guided by the following objectives; To examine the relationship between occupational stress and employee performance. To examine the relationship between employee assistance programs and employee performance. To examine the relationship between occupational stress and employee assistance programs. The study employed the quantitative approach research design where a cross-sectional and correlational study design were used. It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between employee assistance programs and occupational stress, but there was no significant relationship between employee assistance programs and employee performance just as there is no significant relationship between occupational stress and employee performance. It was recommended that; The organization can initiate programs by recovering alcoholic employees through supervisors responding effectively to employees’ alcohol and job performance problems, catching the problems earlier that could have saved thousands of cash in lost productivity. KCCA can put up a treatment centers like a private company to offer EAP services to employers and lastly, employees can look at other causes of low employee performance like poor motivation, job security, employee personality, moral competence, emotional intelligence and many more factors that can affect employee performance.
