Proactive behavior, competition orientation and counterproductive work behaviors among the employees of the parliament of Uganda.
Abstract
This research was carried out to examine the relationship between proactive behavior, competition orientation and counterproductive work behaviors among the staff of the Parliament of Uganda. It was carried out between November to January. Many employees have indulged in counterproductive work behaviors due to low practice of proactive behaviors and competition orientation. Therefore this research looked at how the lack of proactive behaviors and competition orientation drive employees into counterproductive work behaviors. The study used correlation research design, data was collected from the 130 respondents of the staff of the Parliament of Uganda who included both males and females and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for the documents analysis and discussions. The findings revealed that there is a positive relationship between proactive behavior and competition orientation, a negative relationship between competition orientation and counterproductive work behaviors and a positive relationship between proactive behavior and counterproductive work behavior. The study recommended the need for management in organizations to control the practice of proactive behaviors as they can lead lead to an increase in counterproductive work behaviors if not checked.
