    Abstract
The aim of the research was to find out if there was Azolla around Kampala metropolitan and assess the relationship of water quality and the growth of Azolla. 14 wetlands sites were visited of which six sites had Azolla growing and the rest of the eight sites had no Azolla. Water samples were obtained from eight sites (all the six that had Azolla and two sites without Azolla) and taken for laboratory analysis. Water parameters analyzed include; pH, calcium, potassium, magnesium, salinity, total phosphorus and total nitrogen. Shapiro wilk test was carried to check for normality of the data and then one way ANOVA was employed to assess the relationship of water quality from the different sites. The ANOVA revealed that there is statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) in water quality parameters among the eight sites. According to the statistical data analysis Azolla growth is independent of the water quality parameters of the habitats and it is able to survive in a wide range of different water qualities.
