Abstract
The study examines the role of songs in the narration of selected Acholi folk tales. The paper suggests that the songs are basic elements in smooth narration of Acholi folk tales and therefore should be studied and understood within that context. The aim is to understand and appreciate the values of songs in folktales. The paper concludes that songs play a great role in the narration of folks tales, they do not just occur as breaks but also boost the aesthetic value of these folktales. The selected Acholi folktales in this study have been translated from Luo to English language. The majorly used method for data collection was interviewing and the use of key informants.
