dc.description.abstract This study explored the challenges faced by male undergraduate students (MUS) at Makerere University that delay their timely completion of their degree programs. The study aimed to examine the financial challenges faced by MUS that limit the timely completion of their degree programs, to assess the social challenges faced by MUS which hinder their timely completion of their degree programs, and to investigate the academic challenges faced by MUS that limit their timely completion of their degree programs. The study adopted both exploratory and descriptive research designs, as it employed a mixed approach in nature. Quantitative data were collected using structured online questionnaires from One hundred MUS who experienced delayed degree completion at Makerere University, drawn from three Colleges: CHUSS, CoBAMS, and CoCIS. Qualitative data was collected using semi-structured in-depth interview guides from three MUS who experienced delayed completion, and from two key informants: Makerere University counselor and a lecturer. SPSS was employed to analyze the quantitative data, while NVivo software was used to analyze qualitative data and generate themes. The findings revealed that MUS at Makerere University encountered financial, social and academic challenges that ultimately delay the timely completion of their degree programs. The study highlights the need for strong support mechanisms, effective planning, and active stakeholder involvement to address these challenges and promote educational equity, ultimately ensuring academic success for all. en_US
