Abstract
In the studies concerning oral literature, folk tales have been widely analysed in terms of their importance, structure, historical value and many more but the process by which they make meaning has been neglected.This oral literature study entails a detailed analysis of the ways in which symbolism is used as a literary device in selected Ganda folk tales.This has been done through examining the parts of the folk tales and how they are used as symbols to create meaning which is meant to entertain and teach.
