Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of ICT usage in the teaching and learning of PE in secondary schools in Kampala Central Division. The study aimed at finding out the ICT tools used, challenges faced while using ICT in teaching and learning of PE and their proposed solutions. The research followed an exploratory study design and qualitative and quantitative data was obtained. A sample of 30 PE teachers from 30 secondary schools in Kampala Central division was chosen by convenience sampling method to participate in the study by answering a semi structured questionnaire which was subjected to descriptive content analysis. The findings show that use of ICT in teaching and learning of physical Education has many benefits to both teachers and learners like using ICT to prepare learning materials, clarifying abstract concepts, making lesson presentation better, providing room for active participation of learners and helping learners to make more research about the subject matter. ICT use in teaching and learning of PE faces multiple challenges such as, lack of internet connection, inadequate ICT tools, lack of knowledge to operate some ICT equipment, electricity connection problems and lack of support form school administration. To the large extent ICT was integrated in the teaching and learning of PE however the effectiveness of ICT Use in teaching and learning of PE is still low there is therefore need to put forward policies on integrating ICT across all subjects and equipping teachers with knowledge on how to effectively use different ICT tools in their teaching practices.
