The influence of Covid-19 lockdowns on the rising number of teenage pregnancies in Omoro District

Abstract

Teenage pregnancy is considered to be one of the leading problems faced globally and this is because of known and unknown factors. The study sought to investigate some of the reasons that led to a rise in teenage pregnancies as a result of the recent two lockdowns resulting from the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 in Uganda. A cross sectional and descriptive research design were employed in the study and these provided information to boost the progress of the study through observation and detailed extraction of information through probing. The study population were the young teenage girls both of whom were either pregnant or those who had been victims and were now mothers. This group was used in order to understand what happened, when it happened and how it happened, so as to know what changes have been made and what more need to be looked to. The data was collected through personal interviews and focus group discussions to cover the identified sample size. This data was analyzed and explained. Findings were also detailed, recommendations made, conclusions drawn and the study summarized.
