Abstract
For proper working of any 3 phase appliance, it must be connected to a 3 phase
alternating current (ac) power supply of rated voltage and load. Once these three-phase
appliances for example induction motors are started, they will continue to run even if one
of the three-phase supply lines gets disconnected. The loss of current through one of
these phase supplies is described as single phasing. Even though the motor will continue
to operate in this condition, the motor will heat up very quickly, and it is essential that the
motor be removed from service.
Our methodology included; research and study of single phasing, simulate and implement
an electronic circuit that switches off motors when single phasing occurs and we had to
compare our solution to the available ones. We managed to do all the above.
