dc.description.abstract The research was carried out in Bugisu region, particularly Sironko district. This study was intended to examine the application of proverbs among the Bamasaba people. It is based on identifying several proverbs, giving their meaning and explaining how and when they are used. The use of proverbs depends on the community. They derive proverbs according to their way of life. The Bamasaba consider proverbs as a vital mode of communication in relation to the intention. The research established that proverbs were uttered to convey a message beyond the literal sense of the words they composed of. en_US
