Stress, Socio-economic Status and Drug Abuse among Adults in Slum Areas.

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between Stress, Socioeconomic Status and Drug Abuse among adults in slum areas a case of Katanga slum. It adopted a correlational research design. A sample of 124 adults were selected by use of simple random technique. Data was collected by use of self-administered questionnaires and was analyzed using the statistical package for social scientists (SPSS). Spearman Correlation coefficient (r s ) was used to test the significance of the hypotheses. It was revealed that there is no significant relationship between Stress and Socioeconomic status, it was also revealed that there was a negative significant relationship between socioeconomic status and drug abuse, and lastly it was revealed that there is no relationship between stress and drug abuse.
