dc.description.abstract Hypertension is a major public health concern and a leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Despite increased awareness, its burden remains high, particularly among working populations in urban environments. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and associated risk factors of hypertension among teaching and administrative staff of Makerere University Main Campus. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 300 staff members selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires covering sociodemographic, behavioral, and occupational factors, alongside blood pressure measurements take using the blood pressure sphygmomanometer were BP >=120/80 mmHg or being on antihypertensive medication was indicative of hypertension. Logistic regression was used to identify factors independently associated with hypertension. The prevalence of hypertension was 28.0% (95% CI: 23.2–33.2). The mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure values were 129.4 ± 15.8 mmHg and 83.6 ± 10.3 mmHg, respectively. Factors significantly associated with hypertension included age ≥45 years, lack of physical activity, positive family history of hypertension, frequent work-related stress, and sleeping fewer than 7 hours per night. Hypertension is prevalent among university staff, with both modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors playing key roles. Targeted interventions focusing on workplace wellness, regular screening, lifestyle modification, and stress management are essential to curb the growing burden of hypertension in professional settings. en_US
