dc.description.abstract Green leafy vegetables are exploited in African culture for both nutritional and medicinal purposes. The leaf extracts of L’Her. plectranthus cyaneus in East Africa is used to treat skin infections, malaria and obesity among other diseases. Due to the lack of scientific information about the phytochemical profile of this plant, the current study was conducted to determine the different phytochemicals that could give it the medicinal properties that it has. Among the phytochemical tested, starch was absent while Saponins, tannins, reducing compounds, alkaloids, coumarin, flavonoids, steroid glycosides, Anthocyanosides and anthracenocides were all present. Therefore the plant has high pharmacological potential. en_US
