Information-Retrieval System for St Charles Lwanga High School-Kashekuro

Abstract

The study will be aiming at designing an Information Retrieval system for St Charles Lwanga –Kashekuro. The objectives of the study will be to identify the different types of documents /Resources found in the school Library, the requirements for a Retrieval system at the given school, how information resources are retrieved, the challenges that are faced by the current retrieval system, requirements, the requirements needed to set up a retrieval system, and the gaps that exist in the current retrieval system. The researcher will use the case study were both the Qualitative and Quantitative methods of research data collection will be used .The observation ,Interview, and Questionnaire methods will be used in the collection of the data and all these will be aiming at improving the Retrieval system of St Charles Lwanga High School –Kashekuro. The findings of the study include the following, The information materials in the Library for example books are arranged according to their call numbers to enable easy retrieval and access. The study finds also indicate that the Retrieval system faces a challenge of retrieving the information resources in an organized manner thus wasting of time, lack of enough space, poor security measures ,dust around the books and shelves, misplacement of the library documents, mishandling of books .The findings also indicate the storage of information materials and some of the storage materials that are stored include the following ,books, calendars, books, manuals and some of these contain confidential information while others do not ,those that contain confidential information are stored in cabinets while those that do not contain are kept in open shelves .The study also indicates the Requirements that are needed to design a Retrieval system for the school library and they include the following, Cascading style sheet (CSS),Java script, XHTML,PHP,XAMMP server and MSQL. The study also Reveals some snapshots that include, Addproducts, Admin panel, dash board, login page and update form.
