dc.description.abstract This study primarily investigates the proficiency of Chinese language majors at Makerere University in professional Chinese. Given the significant influence of the Chinese language in global trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchange, understanding students' experiences in learning professional Chinese is crucial. The research utilizing questionnaire surveys and interviews, the study examines the proficiency levels of professional Chinese among students in the Chinese and Asian Studies program at Makerere University. The aim is to assess students' professional Chinese abilities, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, as well as their comprehension of specialized vocabulary and professional communication norms. The study findings reveal that overall, the proficiency level of professional Chinese among McCleary University's Chinese language majors is not high, and there are many issues when applying professional Chinese. The findings of this study will offer insights into the learning and usage of professional language among Chinese language majors at Makerere University, providing suggestions for curriculum development and teaching improvements. en_US
