dc.description.abstract This correlational study which was carried out in Kitante Hill School entitled "Substance abuse, self-esteem and parental separation among early adolescents (15-20 years)." Where 100 adolescents were interviewed who were picked randomly. The parental separation continued to be a major influence on self-esteem and substance abuse among school going adolescents. It has been revealed that parental separation does influence self-esteem which meant that adolescents who were nurtured in intact families had a positive effect on self-esteem. The research has further revealed a close positive link between parental separation and self-esteem where parental separation did influence adolescent substance abuse. The high levels of substance abuse have been linked to low levels of self-esteem among adolescents. The findings of this study showed that there was indeed a significant relationship between self-esteem and substance abuse. A negative significant relationship exists between self-esteem and substance abuse, this implies that the higher the self-esteem, the lower the level of substance abuse among adolescents. en_US
