dc.description.abstract A cross sectional study was conducted in the months of October and November 2020 with the aim to determine the prevalence of chicken coccidiosis in Bweyogerere Division. A total of 210 fecal samples were collected randomly and examined using floatation technique to detect coccidian oocysts. A total of 7 samples per chicken house from 10 houses were examined. The results revealed that 27.6% (58/210) of the chicken were positive for coccidian oocyts while 72.4% (152/210) were negative. The prevalence of coccidiosis was recorded as 7.1% (15/210), 10.5% (22/210), 10% (21/210) for local, broilers and layers respectively. The prevalence of coccidiosis was higher in chicken <4 weeks 15.7% (33/210) than that of those >5 weeks 11.9% (25/210). Among the chicken types high prevalence was recorded in broilers 10.5% (22/210), layers 10% (21/210) local chicken 7.1% (15/210). Higher prevalence of coccidiosis was recorded in the intensive system 20.5% (43/210) than in the extensive system 7.1% (15/210). The general prevalence rate of the disease was not statistically significant since p-value >0.05 in all system, ages, and types of chicken in this area was obtained, so chances of the chicken acquiring the disease does not depend on the age ,type and management system. Thus the present study showed that the occurrence chicken coccidiosis in Bweyogerere Division is relatively high 27.6% (58/210) so the need to design appropriate control strategies in order to reduce this prevalence in the region. en_US
