| dc.description.abstract | The Bamasaaba people are an ethnic society of the Bantu group who live in the Eastern part of Uganda and the slopes of mt Elgon also known as Masaba and that's why they are called the BAMASAABA. The Bamasaaba are currently known as the Bagisu who are known as the descendants of Mundu and Seera the wife and speak lugishu originally as lumasaaba language. The Bamaasaba people are mainly farmers and their main food malewa got from Baboo shoots from Mt Elgon Forest and as I said they are farmers they grow bananas, millet , sorghum and other crops moreso their best cashly grown crop is coffee especially on the slopes of mt.Elgon. Before the 19th century and up to today there have been ways of entertainment through Storytelling, dance, music,Poetry and other short forms of Literature such as Proverbs , Riddles , Rhymes and these impact good morals as a way of good cultural upbringing of children and has always acted as disciplinary actions or advice to the youth moreso also with the protection of the cultural norms for example during the initiation time whereby boys became men through circumcisions and this practice is known as "Imbaalu" which is used to convey the message to the parents of the boys that they have now grown. This practice is inform of songs, proverbs, narratives and chants. | en_US |
