| dc.description.abstract | The following is a documentation of the final year project as per requisite for the award of bachelors of Science in mechanical engineering degree. The project focuses on development of an energy efficient and affordable electric food warmer that can safely and consistently maintain the desired temperature for food without wasting energy. Food warmers have evolved from basic methods to modern electric devices. Samuel Clarke's 1888 patent for the "Pyramid food warmer" used candles to heat food or beverages. With the arrival of electricity in the 19th century, food warmers became more advanced and portable, becoming popular in restaurants and food service settings. The 20th century saw specialized commercial food warmers emerge, catering to buffets and self-service eateries. In methodology, interviews, observation and bench marking were used to get the design requirements which were used to get design parameters hence getting the preliminary and detailed design. The design was drawn in solid works which later was used in fabricating the electric food warmer. In the results, the power needed to keep the temperature of food, insulation, temperature control were got. The food warmer was also fabricated which contained 3 food pans and connected to the heating element of 2000W, a thermostat of maximum temperature 110 degrees and 2 indicator lights. In conclusion, this project successfully developed a cost-effective and efficient electric food warmer through careful design, optimization, and collaboration. The resulting product offers a balance between energy savings, affordability, and functionality. However, opportunities remain for further refinement. The fabricated electric food warmer should prioritize enhanced energy efficiency through advanced insulation materials, efficient heating elements, and smart temperature control systems, while also focusing on cost optimization by continually evaluating manufacturing processes and material sourcing. Market-driven design, informed by thorough market research and consumer feedback, should guide the incorporation of features that enhance product appeal and competitiveness. Additionally, product diversification with variations in sizes, capacities, and features will cater to diverse consumer and business needs, ensuring the product remains versatile and in-demand in the marketplace. | en_US |
