Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and workplace performance among Makerere University staff members at Mulago hospital. The study investigated the relationship between emotional intelligence and workplace performance of staff members from Mulago hospital.
A descriptive survey research design was adopted using quantitative and qualitative methods. A Simple random sampling was used to select the staff whereby questionnaires were given out to the staff members. Data analysis involved frequencies, percentages and inferential statistics such as correlations and the coefficient of determination. Findings revealed a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and work place performance.
It was therefore concluded that there was a non-significant relationship between emotional intelligence and work place performance among the staff of Mulago hospital.
The study recommends that the management of Mulago hospital should enhance emotional intelligence by strongly implementing organization policies, attitudes, procedure and decisions that help employees’ reorganize and be able to manage their feelings so as they can complete tasks. This will help employees perform and recognize the feelings of others and having efficient management skills.
