dc.description.abstract The study assessed the socio-economic factors that affect expectant mothers from accessing skilled birth attendants. The objectives of the study were to examine the social factors that affect access to skilled birth attendants, to identify economic factors that affect access to skilled birth attendants by expectant mothers and what could be done to help expectant mothers’ access to skilled birth attendants. The study adopted a qualitative research approach using descriptive research designs and data was collected from a sample of 10 participants. The study found that the social factors that affected expectant mothers from accessing skilled birth attendants were long distance from the health centre, negative perceptions, low level of education and the economic factors were a limited source of income and poverty. The study concluded that socio-economic factors play a great role in determining the accessibility to skilled birth attendants among expectant mothers. Based on the result of the study, the researcher recommended that the government should designate more funding in the health sector and should ensure that the funding reaches the health centres so that disparities that affect the access of skilled birth attendants might be reduced. This might widen their capacity to meet their objectives and operation successfully. en_US
