dc.description.abstract This study assessed the contribution of the Parish Development Model (PDM) to women’s economic empowerment in Ireda Parish, Lira District. Despite various national efforts to promote gender equality and inclusive development, women in many rural communities continue to face economic marginalization. The study aimed to examine how the PDM has enhanced women’s access to financial resources and credit facilities, increased their participation in household and community decision-making processes, and identified the opportunities, barriers, and coping mechanisms affecting their full participation in the model. A qualitative research design was employed, involving in-depth interviews, key informants interviews and focus group discussions with women beneficiaries, local leaders, and PDM implementers in Ireda Parish, a quantitative design was as well employed involving use of questionnaires. Findings revealed that the PDM has provided a platform for women to access low-interest financial support, initiate small businesses, and participate more actively in decision-making at household and community levels. However, challenges such as limited awareness, delayed fund disbursement, and cultural norms continue to hinder the full realization of women’s economic empowerment under the program. The study concludes that while the PDM holds great potential to transform the economic status of rural women, its effectiveness depends on improved implementation, sustained community sensitization, and gender-responsive approaches. It recommends strengthening support systems, timely fund access, and continuous monitoring to ensure that women fully benefit from the model. en_US
