Abstract
Employee performance is a critical determinant of success and productivity in commercial agricultural enterprises, particularly within the specialized operations of the dairy sector. Effective and systematic employee training is widely recognized as a primary intervention for enhancing staff competency and overall output. This study sought to examine the effect of employee training on employee performance at Atlas Livestock Dairy Farm Limited in Kobwin Sub-county, Ngora District, Eastern Uganda. The research adopted a case study research design, utilizing a quantitative approach to collect primary data from employees through structured questionnaires. The specific objectives were to: i) assess the types and frequency of training programs offered; ii) determine the current levels of employee performance; and iii) establish the relationship between employee training and employee performance indicators such as productivity, efficiency, and quality of work. Findings revealed a significant positive correlation between the provision of regular, structured training (including on-the-job instruction and formal sessions) and improved employee performance metrics. Employees who participated in consistent training demonstrated higher operational efficiency, greater adherence to quality standards in animal husbandry and milking procedures, and reported higher levels of job satisfaction. The study concludes that training is an indispensable factor influencing employee performance at the farm. It is recommended that Atlas Livestock Dairy Farm Limited formalize a continuous, needs-based training curriculum and allocate sufficient resources to ensure the sustained skill development of its workforce, thereby guaranteeing long-term operational excellence and productivity.
