Designing an Online User Registration System for Mpoma Royal College, Mukono Library.

Abstract

The study aimed at designing an Online user registration system for Mpoma Royal College (NIV) Library in order to improve on the services offered by the library to its users. The objectives of the study were to; examine the existing registration system used at Mpoma royal college Library, establish the challenges in designing an online user registration system at Mpoma Royal College library, determine the requirements for designing an online user registration system at Mpoma Royal College Library, design and develop an Online system for the registration of students at Mpoma Royal College Library. The study adapted a case study research design that employed mixed qualitative and quantitative data collection methods of questionnaire, interview and observation methods. The study used a purposive sampling method to select 70 respondents who participated in the study at Mpoma Royal College. The study found out that the current system is manual and paper-based registration which users registers and counter books to register the students in the library where library users make long queues by to be registered. Inadequate funding of the library was a major challenge in designing an online registration user system. The study concluded that adopting the online user’s registration system, increasing the library funding, recruitment of more library staff, designing a user-friendly interface system, purchase of more ICTs such as computers, training of staff members would help to improve the skills and knowledge, implementation of the online user’s registration system should enable the library staff easily register users of the library and save the time wasted.
