Abstract
Apowertransmissionsystemreferstomeansoftransmittingpowerfromageneratingsourceto variousloadcenters. InUganda,UgandaElectricityTransmissionCompanyLimited(UETCL)isresponsibleforpower transmissionwhichitthensellstoUmemewheretheendusersareserved. ThehighvoltagesatwhichpoweristransmittedcurrentlyinUgandaare;66KV,132KVand 220KV,the400KVisbeingestablishedbutnotyetcommissioned. Thenetworkisprotectedbyvariousprotectionschemeswhichinclude;overcurrent,distanceand differentialprotectionandothers.Intheduecourseofoperation,protectionsystemmalfunctions occur,thusthereisaneedtoanalyzethesemalfunctionsinordertoassesstheirimpactonthe powertransmissionsystemandinthisstudy,wearefocusingontheirimpactonthepower transmissionsystemreliability. OurcasestudyisKawandasubstation,andafterouranalysis,weshallgaugethereliabilitylevel ofourpowertransmissionsystemandthereforesuggestsomemeasuresthatcanbeundertaken thereafter.
