Parental separation, self-esteem and substance abuse among adolescents (10-15 years)

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between parental separation, self-esteem, and substance abuse among school going adolescents. It adopted a correlational research design. A sample of 100 adolescents were selected by use of simple random technique. Data was collected by use of self-administered questionnaires and was analyzed using the statistical package for social scientists (SPSS). Spearman Correlation coefficient (rs) was used to test the significance of the hypotheses. It was revealed that there is a negative significant relationship between Self-esteem and Substance abuse, it was also revealed that there was a significant relationship between socioeconomic status and substance abuse.
