dc.description.abstract A study was conducted out to assess the records filing and distribution in District Local Governments, a case study at Wakiso District Local Government located in Uganda.The objectives of the study were, To find out the types of records generated and distributed at Wakiso District Local Government, To examine the records and filing and distribution systems in Wakiso District Local Government,To analyze the records distribution system in Wakiso District Local Government, To find out the challenges of records filing and distribution in Wakiso District Local Government, To suggest the effective and efficient systems of records of records filing and distribution records distribution at Wakiso District Local Government. The researcher used a qualitative research approach with a case research design, population and sample size. The study also used some quantitative research approach and data was collected using interview, observation and document analysis as the data collecting methods. The major findings of the study discovered that the district deals with largely paper records media. During the research, some problems were discovered and those include delay of feedback, failure of feedback, mishandling of files and filing equipment and access to unauthorized personnel therefore is no enough security of records when distributing them especially for the top secrets of the country. The study suggested effective and efficient methods to the proper records filing and distribution such as Digitization of records generated, updating the payroll system, file census, retrieving file from shelves.Finding also discovered that records distribution plays a vital role in the operation of businesses at the district, however the system needs to be improved for better services suggested in conclusion section of this research. Lastly, the report concludes with recommendations which include Digitization of filing and distribution system,Establishment of record management policies for both filing and distribution, adaption of new systems of distribution. en_US
