Work engagement, physical activity and work performance among Makerere University Hospital nurses.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to identify the mechanisms that underlie the relationship between physical activity, work engagement, and performance. The objectives of the study were to Investigate the relationship between physical activity and work engagement and work performance. The study aimed at examining how physical activity is related to work engagement, and whether individuals who engage in regular physical activity are more likely to be highly engaged in their work. A correlation research design was applied in the study in order to establish the relationship that exists between work engagement, physical activity and work performance. The total population represented by letter N (100) was used to check the corresponding minimum sample size represented by letter (s) using the formula by Krejcie and Morgan (1970). Data was presented into statistical information using statistical package for social scientists (SPSS) and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient ® to establish whether the variables were correlated. The results from the study found that there was no significant positive relationship between physical activity and work engagement, Physical activity was significantly related to work engagement, and finally work engagement was further found to have no significant relationship to work performance.
