Design and implementation of an application for school database on android devices

Abstract

This project seeks to provide an easy access to a school database system that is fast and reliable. This has been achieved by designing an android application to access the database system on android enabled devices. The secondary school database system requires the users to install the application on any android enabled mobile device to access the service.

Some students and their parents or guardians are not fully informed about the education standards and quality of the available schools to consider as their first choice in school selection. As such most of the students end up attending schools that do not offer the best services. In this era of information technology, students and/or their parents have to travel to several schools to find the best of their choice or rely on rumors from the public. This is unreliable in this age of information technology, expensive and time wasting in the long run. Some of the schools which have gone a step to provide their details have done so through their websites. However, one must visit all the websites for all the schools they know and compare, which is time wasting and expensive. Most of the schools in Uganda do not have online websites to publish their information especially those in rural areas. Hence gathering all the information in one place as a database system such that access can be achieved online and on android enabled mobile devices would be imperative for someone who is in urgent need of information about the school status in Uganda.
