Abstract
There is a growing interest among Ugandans to seek greener pastures abroad due to the tough job market in the country. This realization prompted me to undertake a study to determine of differences in age, sex, religion and family stability significantly influence attitudes towards working abroad. With the objectives of describing the attitudes towards working abroad and establishing whether there is a significant relationship between demographic factors and attitude towards working abroad, 113 respondents from Kigo were sampled for the study. They were given questionnaires that had a section for personal information and another with 10 questions to capture their attitudes towards working abroad. The data collected was entered into and analyzed using SPSS version 25 and personal information was reported in frequencies and percentages and a one-way ANOVA was used to test hypothesis. The results of the ANOVA indicated that age, sex and religion did not significantly influence attitudes towards working abroad despite the presence of slight differences. Importantly, family stability was found to significantly influence attitudes towards working abroad (p = .022, f = 3.001). Given the results of the study, I recommend that campaigns that are aimed at simplifying international work opportunities for various demographic groups should be launched, particularly to address the apprehensions that might be prevalent among older individuals and those from steady family backgrounds. As a closing remark, this study sheds light on the attitudes towards working abroad among various demographic groups, revealing nuanced insights that can inform both academic research and practical applications.
