Abstract
C-RAN is an acronym for Cloud Radio Access Network which consists of a Centralized baseband pool, real-time Cloud computing, Collaborative radio and a clean system. The main idea is of a system architecture that can cope with the rapid development of mobile networks and accommodate next-generation networks advanced features, as well as the increasing demands for capacity and coverage. This report provides a comprehensive analysis on the suitability of a centralized radio access network (C-RAN) model for future dense networks. The objectives of the report are to analyze the Capacity, Coverage and Energy Efficiency of a C-RAN model in comparison to that of the Traditional Network (T-RAN). This analysis focuses on the results obtained from simulation of the models using MATLAB software, comparing the results obtained from the T-RAN implementation to those of the C-RAN. This report offers a complete and objective view about C-RAN in order to assess how suitable it could be for the expanding Radio Access Network.
