dc.description.abstract This study analyses the gender stereotypes focusing on the portrayal of women characters in folktales of the Ateso. The study presents the findings from the study carried out in one community of Serere District, majorly analysing the kind of folktales told to the young generation by the elders. The study is centred on analysing the character portrayal of the women in these folktales and the significance of such portrayal on the well-being of the women. The study presents how negative portrayal of the women has continued to exist through these folk tales and thus, such treatment has continued to exist in the societies. en_US
