Guidelines for improving library services at Multitech Business School

Abstract

The project study was aimed at designing guidelines to improve on library services at Multitech Business School. The project objectives were to establish the current status of library services at Multitech Business school; to find out how library services at Multitech Business School are managed; to identify the challenges of provision of library services at Multitech Business school; to propose the best library services at Multitech Business School.

A case study research design was used while adopting a qualitative research approach. Interviews, Observation and document analysis were the methods of data collection used. The, interview guides and observation were sampled to the respondents and the sample size of respondents used was 133 consisting of the library staff, lecturers and students. The study project found out that Out of that there were more females than male library users at MBS library from the figures provided by the administration on there notice boards, there are various services provided by MBS library which are, Reference services, Reading services, Circulation services.

Issuing of books/ reading material, reservation services ,as library orientation, inter library loan. The library faces a number of challenges which include, inadequate library facilities, underutilization of resources and services, unawareness by users, staffing and funding.

The study project recommended that the library collection should be acquisitioned in line with priorities, the library should be opened earlier than it is for better services delivery, marketing and promotion of the library should be done, Library management for library services can be improved when considerations to engage or include users, Library services should also be designed following the user context and definition. For example, user education, current awareness, referencing and reading services among others

The Study project concluded that the response from the respondents on their view towards the designing guidelines for improving library services showed the great significance of its necessity at the Multitech Business School library.
