Contemporary accessorizing: a current fashion trend and the Women of Labwor Abim district.

Abstract

The research was conducted about contemporary accessorizing as a current fashion trend among the women of Labwor living in Abim district. The objectives were to establish the effect of the new fashion trends on the Labwor women and then necessary melting activities, to find out the importance of accessorizing to the Labwor culture while relating it to other accessorizing African cultures. To establish what nature of materials is used in the making of these accessories. The other objective was to find out trending accessories on the market and relate them to those made in Abim district. The research was carried out using research design and sample size. Both primary and secondary qualitative data was collected during the study. The survey population comprised of top management, support staff and junior staff of AWOTlD and households. In computation of frequencies, means and percentages, descriptive analysis were used. The relationship between the variables was obtained using SPSS. The findings on accessorizing in Labwor revealed that many of the people have drifted away from tradition and the accessorizing business isn‟t that effective because even the Labwor girls are now wearing fewer lines of beads and are opting for modern accessories like scarves which don‟t support the women‟s projects which are for an important cause. The findings of the relationships between different African beading tribes show that the only difference between these tribes is their style and magnitude of beading they use. There are very many trending accessories and very soon beadwork may die out. The researcher recommends that the top management of AWOTID should incorporate some of the modern accessory ideas in order to curb a bigger market thus fulfilling their goal of improving the standards of living of the women of Labwor.
