Examining the Decorations accompanying pottery in Kajjansi.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the decorations accompanying pottery where by pottery in Kajjansi is believed to have begun time back in the 1970s by a Greek family on a small scale having a few workers and machines The case study was Kajjansi, one of the most common places pottery is done This research was based on qualitative and quantitative data collection and were to gather information on different pottery decorations used in Kajjansi. The study involved 30 respondents, the research employed qualitative methods of data collection such as in-depth interviews, focus group discussions and key informant interviews. Findings of the study indicated that pottery is on the rise whereby market is ready however the challenged which included market and tools needed for designing were very many and also expensive in that limited the potters from applying the intended decorations for example a potter would have an intended design of decorations to apply but due to insufficient tools or materials he /she fails. Recommendations were made that the government should give tax holidays to the potters, give different exhibitions and also carry out more research. The study concluded that there are various factor s that influence the decorations accompanying pottery pieces whereby the government should help to fix the challenges these pottery industries
