dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study is to examine information provision practices at Muteesa 1 Royal University Library. The objectives of the study were to; profile information services provided, identify innovations in information provision that are adopted, investigate and note challenges in information provision and propose solutions to curb them and document the provision of information services at Muteesa 1 Royal University. The study adopted a case study research design in which the researchers used a purposive sampling method in selecting the library staff and stratified sampling for the students. Out of University population of 10,270 persons, only 54 were sampled for this study and these included 50 students and 4 librarians. Findings from the study showed that the University library had been overwhelmed with the increasing student population which it could not effectively serve within the existing academic budget. This was also confirmed with the cited challenges such as lack of current reading materials, lack of professional librarians, lack of sitting facilities and the restricted reading hours. The study therefore documented the strategies on improving library services as well as effective use of information resources, review of the library programs, and extension of the library operating hours and use of volunteers for certain periods for an improved service delivery. The researchers therefore concluded that for an in-house organization of the information resources, with staff that are highly motivated through various developmental programs can be of great help in improving the librarian’s productivity through serving a large student population.en_US
