dc.description.abstractThe study assessed the tourism potentials of Mabamba wetland for the development of tourism in Kasanje Sub County in Wakiso district. It was guided by the following objectives; to profile and categorize the existing tourism resources and activities in Kasanje parish in Wakiso district, to examine ways how the profiled resources can be promoted for tourism development around Mabamba wetland, to examine the benefits of tourism to local community around Mabamba and to establish challenges associated with the development of tourism around Mabamba wetland. Questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data and analyzed using SPSS software windows 16. The study revealed that there are various attractions at the Mabamba wetland including the wetland itself, lakes and rivers, local culture, various bird species and other wetland animals such as the sitatunga. The study also reveals that different tourist’ activities such as scenic viewing, bird watching, canoeing, and sport fishing are practiced in the study area. It was established that people of Kasanje benefit from tourism through income, employment, and market for the local produce, social service provision such as roads and transport facilities as well as conservation of environment and their local culture. However, Mabamba wetland and its surroundings faces challenges associated with tourism development that include limited funds, lack of tourism awareness, limited products, and inadequate infrastructure developments. As a result, strategies such as increase in community education, diversification of tourism products, involving people in decision making and proper planning have been sought of as a remedy to challenges. The study, recommends that tourism workshops and seminars should be organized by the Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities, the district local government and tourism practitioners in order to equip the local community with tourism entrepreneurial skills and knowledge to be able to explore tourism opportunities at in Kasanje around Mabambawetlandthe management of Mabamba wetland together with that of Wakiso district Local Government and the private investors involve the local people in decision making through organizing village meetings, carry out aggressive marketing campaign so as to make the tourism attractions popular to the outside world to increase on the number tourists arrivals.en_US
