The purpose of the project was to design an electronic appointments system for the Kyambogo University Medical Center to ease service delivery. The objectives of the study were to; examine the current appointments system used, document the requirements for an electronic appointments system, design an electronic appointments system, and provide guidelines for implementing an electronic appointments system for Kyambogo University Medical Center.
The researchers applied a case study research design while adopting both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Interviews, questionnaires and observation were used to collect the data from the Patients and staff who were randomly and purposively selected respectively.
The study established that the current system used is manual which requires Patients to visit the medical Centre in order to make an appointment. The system has challenges such as time wastage, long queues, inadequate staff and tiresome process.
The study also established the different requirements for designing an electronic appointments system and these included; Cheap in terms of maintenance, User friendly, Compatibility with the available computers and Easy to Use. When these are met in the process of designing the appointments system, it would be of an advantage to all the Patients.
The study concluded that KYU medical Centre is faced with a number of challenges in their appointments system which deters service delivery to Patients which justifies the need to design an electronic appointments system to support service delivery at KYU medical Centre.
The study recommended the implementation of the system at KYU medical Centre.
